The smell of toast...


Yesterday was the first Tea and Toast Church of the year. As I looked around the room there were children colouring in and eating toast and chatting and people of all ages joining in conversations together around tables. It reminded me of community I had known growing up in a small village, which I thought was lost forever. The smell of toast filled the air which somehow had a homely feel.
  
It had been an encouraging week as Tony, a neighbour and regular at Tea and Toast, who is a published author had written a wonderful poem about it and shown it to me. I will share it on here once it is published. Later at "Tea and Toast" I had the pleasure of singing with Kim who is also a regular who took the worship music to a whole new level. She is an incredible singer/songwriter, which is the gift she has been given by God. At the end of the service she surprised me with a song she had written about me which was so emotional to hear. It was really encouraging and made me feel so positive and happy.  Here is a video clip of Kim singing the song.

Recently I set off on a CMS weekend away in Birmingham as part of my Pioneering course. I reached Newbigin House at approximately 6 pm. It is in Winson Green, on Handsworth New Road and it is an old vicarage  situated fairly near to the prison and the street that featured in the infamous tv programme Benefit Street, which did not do it justice in my opinion. It is run as a community house, where anyone is welcome to come and share a meal and have company by Australians Anji and Ash Barker, who have had much experience of mission work, having worked in slums in Bangkok for many years. As I entered the house a youth group was just ending and it was still hectic with a large volume of people coming and going.  The house had a very large lounge/dining room which was the hub. Light Bulb moments

Last week I was in Devon staying at Pickwell Manor, which is 5 minutes drive from Putsborough Beach, near a village called Georgeham. The section of the course was specifically focused on making community projects for good happen. On Monday I drove down with friends Rachel and Alex and we were full of excitement and expectation. We found out as we made our way there that it was literally in the middle of nowhere and I had to reverse several times when meeting oncoming traffic on narrow lanes!   As we approached, we saw how close it was to the sea and what a fantastic venue it was. Pickwell Manor is a stunning Manor house with mullioned windows set in six acres of land. We could see tree houses scattered among the grounds where people stay for honeymoons.
