The smell of toast...


Yesterday was the first Tea and Toast Church of the year. As I looked around the room there were children colouring in and eating toast and chatting and people of all ages joining in conversations together around tables. It reminded me of community I had known growing up in a small village, which I thought was lost forever. The smell of toast filled the air which somehow had a homely feel.
  
It had been an encouraging week as Tony, a neighbour and regular at Tea and Toast, who is a published author had written a wonderful poem about it and shown it to me. I will share it on here once it is published. Later at "Tea and Toast" I had the pleasure of singing with Kim who is also a regular who took the worship music to a whole new level. She is an incredible singer/songwriter, which is the gift she has been given by God. At the end of the service she surprised me with a song she had written about me which was so emotional to hear. It was really encouraging and made me feel so positive and happy.  Here is a video clip of Kim singing the song.

Reflections As it is New Years Day I am feeling in a reflective mood. As always I am thinking about New Years resolutions, but more importantly I am reflecting over the past year and everything that has happened. I have really enjoyed my role as Community Pastor and studying for a degree and can’t believe that by the summer of 2021 I will be ordained. It has been a year of much change with Leon going off to Uni and Iris leaving School and starting College. I think that my main resolution for 2020 is to have more fun as I have been so manically busy in 2019. I also want to get better at my guitar and write songs. Happy New Year.

Light Bulb moments

Last week I was in Devon staying at Pickwell Manor, which is 5 minutes drive from Putsborough Beach, near a village called Georgeham. The section of the course was specifically focused on making community projects for good happen. On Monday I drove down with friends Rachel and Alex and we were full of excitement and expectation. We found out as we made our way there that it was literally in the middle of nowhere and I had to reverse several times when meeting oncoming traffic on narrow lanes!   As we approached, we saw how close it was to the sea and what a fantastic venue it was. Pickwell Manor is a stunning Manor house with mullioned windows set in six acres of land. We could see tree houses scattered among the grounds where people stay for honeymoons. As we entered the main building there was a vast wooden staircase and we gathered in the ballroom where there was a roaring fire and helped ourselves to hot drinks.   The hosts were so generous and we were made real...
