A new chapter
Last Sunday we had our first adult baptism at tea and Toast at Haywood Village which was a landmark. Baptism is an outward sign of an inner faith, similar to saying
wedding vows publicly, because we want to stand up and make a public
announcement of our faith to show we are serious about it. It is a symbol of
commitment.
We may be baptised as a baby which means our family promise to bring us
up as a Chrisitan but when we are an adult we need to then make our own
decision and be baptised for our self and own that faith for ourselves if that is what we choose. It is a symbol of new life because baptism means burial in
water and we symbolise dying and being reborn and having a fresh new start. Just
like Jesus died and rose again.
We don't need to wait to be baptised until we are
perfect, as that will never happen, we need to do it first and we are always
constantly learning along the way. Some people think they need to be a mature
Christian first but this is not the case. For Abi last Sunday the baptism represented the start of a whole new chapter in her life where she will be walking with God in his presence and not trying to do things in her own strength.
